Anakbayan holds successful ‘Palihan’
Palihan is the skills-training workshop series of ANAKBAYAN. The latest Palihan was held last August 27-29 at the Eulogio Amang Rodriguez Institute for Technology (EARIST) campus. In attendance are more than 40 members from Quirino High School, Culiat High School, Intramuros Community, University of the Philippines, Technological Institute of the Philippines, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Jose Rizal University, and Phil. School for Business and the Arts.
The first night was a ‘Filmfest’ where members where treated to many documentaries and indie films. Saturday morning was spent in discussing various articles from the book Struggle for National Democracy, touching on various topics concerning the youth’s role in social change. In the afternoon, the participants chose among a selection of skills workshops, including: Public Speakers’ Training, Fund-raising Training, Technical Writing Training, Anakbayan Chapter Building course, and the Anakayan PADEPA (its own alternative class program) training course.
In the evening, members showed off their talents during the Cultural Night, showcasing talents such as poetry-reading, singing, guitar-playing, acting, and directing.
Sunday morning was spent on the planning of Anakbayan’s many activities for the month of September. The entire afternoon was devoted to the much-awaited Palaruan ng Anakbayan, where games like flag relay, patintero, pass-the-message, Quiz Bee, and Pinoy Henyo were given progressive twists.
