“Jail the real criminals, not whistleblowers like Lozada” – ANAKBAYAN

“Criminals get rewarded, witnesses get arrested”

This was the reaction of militant youth group ANAKBAYAN following the arrest today of ZTE-NBN star witness Rodolfo “Jun” Lozada.

ANAKBAYAN chairperson Ken Ramos questioned the arrest of Lozada based on charges of perjury, saying “It seems that under the Arroyo Administration, you are only a criminal if you admit to being one. Jun Lozada spilled the beans and is now going to jail, while the likes of FG, Gloria, and Abalos, remain scot-free”.

Ramos called the Arroyo Administration a “Mafia”, in reference to the handing of promotions to several government officials linked to the ZTE-NBN deals and other scandals, such as Romulo Neri to the SSS, and Jovito Palparan to Congress: “While someone who is repenting for his role in government wrong-doings is now in jail, someone who keeps denying his wrong-doings like Neri is put in charge of a vital government agency”.

“Even more offending is how someone who as been linked by the Supreme Court to cases of extra-judicial killings and enforced disappearances, like Jovito Palparan, is being allowed to assume the title of ‘Honorable’”.

“If the Arroyos are a Mafia, then Lozada’s arrest can be described as nothing more than a Mafia hit. His arrest and perjury charges work in several ways: He is harassed to the point of demoralization, his credibility is questioned, and he is physically kept from attending activities where he is invited” added Ramos.

Ramos also lashed out at Mike Defensor, the person who filed perjury charges against Lozada which formed the basis for his arrest: “Mike Defensor is no role model of the youth. A real role model admits when he is wrong and tries to help in rectifying the mistakes he/she committed. Jun Lozada is the real role model of the youth”. ###
